In 1945 the factories suffered an aerial bombardment that damaged them but the end of the hostilities was close and Wilier was ready to start again, in its departments all the phases of the processing took place, from the welding of the steel tubes of the frames to the painting, until the assembly of all the components. In a war-free Italy, but still with the aftermath of the conflict, cycling soon became a myth with the exploits of Coppi and Bartali.
In the second half of the '40' Wilier participated in racing with its own team, the partnership of cycling teams by bicycle manufacturers had already begun with Bianchi, Atala and Legnano. Mario Dal Molin also decided to follow this trend with the collaboration with the Veloce Cub Bassano sports team founded in 1892, then, in 1946, with a team of its own, appears in the cycling of professionals in fact in that year a Wilier team: the red jersey and halberd of San Giusto on the chest, the team had at their disposal a new bike that came out of the Dal Molin factory under the name of "Wilier Triestina" and with a livery still unmistakable today, the coppery chromovelato.
Of this team two champions symbol: one is Giordano Cottur, could not be otherwise: he was born in Trieste and wins the stage of the Giro d'Italia of 1946 with arrival just in Trieste (classification officially neutralized because the race was interrupted by a demonstration).
Another great champion was Fiorenzo Magni, he in saddle of a Wilier won the 1948 Giro d'Italia.
In 1952 Wilier Triestina was forced by the drop in sales to close and the brand was sold by the Dal Molin family to the Meccanica Moderna Milano and a marginal production of bicycles and even motorcycles survived with the Wilier brand.
We could call it "new Wilier" that of Rossano Veneto, since 1969 in fact the brothers Antonio and Lino Gastaldello take over the Wilier brand and resume production in the town not far from Bassano Del Grappa.
In the following years Wilier Triestina again committed itself in cycling competitions with the Hoonved Mecap of the dino Dino Zandegù in 1979 and then with the Wilier Selle Italia in 1981. The commitment in the competitions is discontinuous but in the history Wilier have been many teams to have used Wilier and Wilier bikes as a technical sponsor. Important teams and stories we will talk about.
