Ha all'attivo tre Parigi-Roubaix, tante quante il "cannibale" Eddy Merckx e sicuramente questa sfida nella sfida rende la vittoria più importante. In corsa "The Gipsy" rimane con un gruppo di 22 corridori tra cui Merckx, Moser, Maertens, Godefroot . A 30 km dall'arrivo Freddy Maertens, in maglia iridata, attaccò per venire poi ripreso in progressione dal solo De Vlaeminck, l'unico che non veniva "rimbalzato" dal difficilissimo fondo di gara.

De Vlaeminck arrivò a Roubaix con 1'30'' di vantaggio. Si è guadagnato così, oltre alla corsa e ad un primato su Eddy Merckx, che sappiamo non ha lasciato molti primati ad altri corridori, il soprannome di "Mounsieur-Roubaix", ora condiviso con un altro grande interprete della classica monumento delle pietre: Tom Boonen.

De Vlaeminck arrives in Roubaix 1'30'' before the group. He won the race and a record of four victories, one victory more then Eddy Merckx a rider, we know, that didn't leave many records to others. De Vlaeminck after this victory was niknamed "Mounsieur-Roubaix", a nickname shared to another grat rider in the recent history of the monument classic of cobblestone: Tom Boonen.
