Dobbiamo testimoniare l'impegno organizzativo che è stato messo da Marco Gios per dar vita ad una giornata che fosse di festa e dove tutti potessero trovare una calda accoglienza.
I luoghi: Volpiano e Ivrea, da Volpiano ovviamente si parte, dalla sede Gios, che prorio in questa edizione del raduno vede festeggiato il decimo anno dall'apertura. A Ivrea, il percorso previsto per il raduno ha il suo il giro di boa, si arriva a Ivrea per la partenza della tappa del Giro D'Italia: Ivrea-Como.
La sede Gios di Volpiano è un po' negozio, un po' officina, un po' museo, un po' casa.
Negozio perché Gios vende i suoi prodotti esclusivamente a Volpiano, nella sua sede; metà degli spazi, poi, sono occupati dall'officina dove il lavoro artigianale ha il suo teatro; una parte della sede Gios è occupata, e non poteva essere diversamente, da una stupenda collezione-museo delle biciclette più rappresentative, e la storia del ciclismo la si può ripercorrere per un ampissimo periodo; un po' casa, arrivo il sabato, e proprio come avrei fatto io se fossi rimasto a casa mia, ci sono Aldo e Marco intenti a guardare il finale della tappa con arrivo a Courmayeur.
Vi spiego meglio queste quattro declinazioni: casa sì, quindi famiglia. E' la sensazione che ho percepito subito, tenete presente che ho incontrato per la prima volta Aldo e Marco all'Eroica 2017, quindi non è che possa essere considerato un "amico di vecchia data"; ma la semplicità, la cortesia, il desiderio di condividere ti portano a trattare le persone come persone amiche, Aldo e Marco in questo non mentono, sono spontanemente pronti ad includere piuttosto che escludere, pratica che oggi è spesso la più usata.
Si inizia a parlare e si spazia di argomento in argomento, si parla del Giro e delle biciclette di oggi (Aldo ha un giudizio preciso della maggior parte delle biciclette di oggi: "fatte con lo stampo", non è un buon giudizio come immaginerete); gli porto un telaio che, bisognoso di cure, vorrei mi controllassero e vorrei affidare a loro il restauro, allora si inizia a parlare di tecnica, di che congiunzioni usavano e quando, il mio telaio viene subito catalogato e sembra quasi che Aldo ti stia per dire "sai questo l'ho fatto .. mi ricordo.." non è così ovviamente ma la sensazione è questa. Ora il mio telaio è in ottime mani.
Officina, sì, sicuramente l'officina è il luogo più rappresentativo, non è un asettico laboratorio, lì quando serve si va giù pesanti. "Vedi" mi dice Aldo, "ci son delle volte che vengono (clienti) e mi dicono ma qui sento questo rumore... mi si è rotto questo..." "Le cose oggi non sono sempre fatte bene, io mi son costruito questo attrezzo qui per verificare le forcelle, metti la forcella qui, la incastri e deve entrare, la giri la incastri di nuovo e deve corrispondere". E sì, è semplice le cose devono essere fatte.. come devono essere fatte. Traspare anche un po' di nostalgia, perché noi qui in italia le cose le sapevamo, anzi direi, le sappiamo fare bene, ma la produzione dei grandi numeri, del minor costo possibile, del massimo profitto possibile ha portato la bicicletta anche molto, troppo distante dall'Italia.
Del negozio approfitto quando devo perfezionare il mio abbigliamento per il giorno successivo. Voglio una maglia Gios. Presa.
La storia Gios è scritta e si scrive ogni giorno grazie all'impegno di tenere italiano e vivo un marchio importante, che ha visto sulle proprie bici correre corridori importanti e che ha visto trionfare: Zilioli, Sercu, Bellini, Panizza, De Muynck, De Vlaeminck, De Wolf...e tanti altri. Fanno mostra di sè stupende bici Gios nella parte "museo"; ci sono le biciclette degli albori del marchio quando il blu non era ancora il colore delle bici Gios. C'è la bicicletta Di Italo Zilioli, corridore scoperto proprio da Tolmino Gios che nel 1959 vinse con quella bicicletta il campionato italiano allievi. Ci sono la bicicletta di Patrik Sercu, purtroppo recentemente scomparso, quella di Roger De Vlaeminck, la Gios Aerodynamic di Andy Hampsten utilizzata dal team nazionale statunitense nel 1981. Oltre alle biciclette sono tanti anche i cimeli e gli oggetti rappresentativi di un'epoca.
Visto che abbiamo citato dei grandi campioni, fanno parte della famiglia Gios e sono intervenuti per questa occasione Italo Zilioli che ha salutato la comitiva al ritorno a Volpiano e Fons De Wolf che ha partecipato alla pedalata: un colpo di pedale, ancora oggi, da grande campione. "E' un ragazzo d'oro", dice Aldo, "era ed è un ragazzo d'oro, sempre disponibile, gentile, anche ai tempi, un autografo, una foto, anzi per la sua carriera di corridore, forse, fosse stato un po' più 'cattivo'...". Mi parla così di Fons "il lupo" Aldo Gios e vedo nelle sue parole un affetto sincero, un altro figlio.
Il figlio "anagrafico" è Marco, che porta a tre le generazioni Gios. Marco Gios è un ragazzo giovane che sembra avere le idee molto chiare, il progetto Gios Torino in mano sua è in buone mani, anche per il futuro: condivide i pensieri del padre Aldo e strizza l'occhio alla modernità. La bicicletta Gios non è solo una bella storia del passato, è viva, è acciaio, anche moderno, ma anche i nuovi materiali. L'innovazione del resto è sempre stata di casa dai Gios, nella chiaccherata a proposito del mio telaio si è parlato infatti del primo forcellino regolabile e facilmente sostituibile in caso di incidente, brevetto Gios poi diventato in uso nella maggior parte dei telai moderni.
Tutte le biciclette Gios hanno un qualcosa, un'anima, lo si vede bene in tutte le biciclette dei felici partecipanti al raduno. Biciclette Gios pronte a fare quello che sanno fare meglio, percorrere le strade. Piano, forte, pancia a terra o guardandosi attorno, questo poco importa. Inutile dire che tutte le sensazioni provate incontrando Aldo e Marco si ritrovano anche su strada, e credo che in molti abbiano provato quello che ho provato io, credo che tutti potrebbero raccontarvi una storia come quella che vi ho scritto io. Forse per chi li conosce meglio e da più tempo di me anche molte e molte altre storie, sempre di passione "in blu".

The Gios headquarters in Volpiano is more than a single thing it's a shop, a workshop, a museum, a home.
Shop because Gios sells its products exclusively in Volpiano, in its headquarters; half of the spaces, then, are occupied by the workshop where the craftsmanship has its theater; a part of the Gios headquarters is occupied, and could not be otherwise, by an awesome collection-museum of the most representative bicycles, and the history of cycling can be retraced for a very long period; a home, I arrive on Saturday, and just as I would have done if I had stayed at my house, there are Aldo and Marco intent on watching the end of the stage with arrival in Courmayeur.
I will explain these four facets better: home yes, then family. It is the feeling that I immediately felt, keep in mind that I met Aldo and Marco for the first time at the Eroica 2017, so it's not like I can be considered an "old friend"; but simplicity, courtesy, the desire to share lead you to treat people as friends, Aldo and Marco in this do not lie, they are spontaneously ready to include rather than exclude, a practice that today is often the most used.
We start talking and we go from topic to topic, we talk about the Giro and the bikes of today (Aldo has a precise judgment of most of today's bicycles: "made with the mold", it is not a good judgment as you will imagine); I bring him a frame that, in need of care, I would like to control me and I would like to leave them for the restoration, then we start talking about technique, what conjunctions they used and when, my frame is immediately cataloged and it almost seems that Aldo is going to say "you know this I did .. I remember .." is not so obviously but the feeling is this. Now my frame is in excellent hands.
Workshop, yes, surely the workshop is the most representative place, it is not an aseptic laboratory, there, when it is needed, one goes down heavy. "See" Aldo tells me, "there are times clients come and they tell me: but here I hear this noise ... this is broken ..." "Things today are not always well done, I am built this tool here to check the forks, put the fork here, fit it in and have to fit right, turn it back in and fit it back again ". And yes, it's simple things have to be done .. how they should be done. A bit of nostalgia shines through, because here in Italy we knew things, I would say, we know how to do them well, but the production of large numbers, of the lowest possible cost, of the maximum possible profit has brought the bicycle too much, too much distant from Italy.
I take advantage of the shop when I need to perfect my clothing for the next day. I want a Gios shirt. I got it.
The Gios story is written and again written every day thanks to the commitment to keep Italian and live an important brand, which has seen important riders on its bikes and who has seen triumph: Zilioli, Sercu, Bellini, Panizza, De Muynck, De Vlaeminck, De Wolf ... and many others. They show off beautiful Gios bikes in the "museum" part; there are the bicycles of the dawning of the brand when the blue was not yet the color of the Gios bikes. There is the bicycle Di Italo Zilioli, a rider discovered by Tolmino Gios who won the Italian championship, for young riders, in 1959 with the bicycle. There is the bicycle of Patrik Sercu, unfortunately recently deceased, that of Roger De Vlaeminck, Andy Hampsten's Gios Aerodynamic used by the US national team in 1981. In addition to bicycles there are also many memorabilia and objects representative of an era.
Since we mentioned some great champions, they are part of the Gios family and Italo Zilioli intervened for this occasion who greeted the party when they returned to Volpiano and Fons De Wolf who participated in the ride: a great pedal stroke, even today. "He is a golden boy," says Aldo, "he was and is a golden boy, always available, kind, even at the time, an autograph, a photo, indeed for his career as a runner, perhaps he had been a little more 'evil' ... ". He speaks to me of Fons "the wolf" Aldo Gios and I see in his words a sincere affection, another son.
The real son is Marco, who leads to three the Gios generations. Marco Gios is a young guy who seems to have very clear ideas, the Gios Torino project in his hands is in good hands, also for the future: he shares his father's thoughts and gives a nod to modernity. The Gios bicycle is not only a beautiful story of the past, it is alive, it is steel, even modern, but also new materials. The innovation has always been at home by the Gios, in the talk about my frame we have in fact spoken of the first adjustable and easily replaceable dropout in the event of an accident, a Gios patent which then became in use in most modern frames.
All Gios bicycles have somethingspecial inside, a soul, you can see it well on all the bicycles of the happy participants in the Gios 4th annual rally. Gios bicycles ready to do what they do best, along the roads. Needless to say, all the sensations you feel when you meet Aldo and Marco can also be found on the road, and I think many people have tried what I felt, I think everyone could tell you a story like the one I wrote you. Perhaps for those who know them better and longer than me also many and many other stories, always with "a blue" passion.
